When troops were searching for John Wilkes Booth in southern MD, they stopped at Dr Richard Stuart's house and asked if he know John Wilkes Booth. He said no and that was a lie. He was brought before General Lew Wallaces Commission on the killing of Abraham Lincoln. He was given 10 years for that lie in a Florida Prison.

Court records said that he was the great grandson of Mary Stuart the wife of William of Orange via her lover artist Peter Paul Rubens.

A good book to read is The Life of Lew Wallace by General Lew Wallace.
