Hi Delwyn,
The Y-DNA is passed only from father to son, along with his surname, and on down the line. So the person that should be tested for your Stuart surnamed great grandfather would need to be a direct male line descendant of his. It does not matter if the person has the same Stuart surname, but he does need to be a direct male line descendant.
If you do have someone who fits that description to Y-DNA test, you can both join the Royal_Bastards DNA Project, and order a test kit here:

If you had been Y-DNA tested at FTDNA, you would have been able to add your test results to the National Geographic Genographic Project for a very small sum of money. But, unfortunately, it does not work the other way around.
