I am related to Col. Charles Fleming. He is supposed to be the son of John Fleming (-1686 April 30), and Judith Tarleton, and a grandson of Sir. Thomas Fleming(1597-). I have recently been told on this internet site that Sir Thomas Fleming did not ever exist and was a mistake made by a early genealogist. At any rate this line in some books has been traced to Johanna, or Jonet, Stewart, the daughter of King James IV.of Scotland, and his cousin Agenes Stewart. She was supposed to be a tudor of her niece,Mary Queen of Scots. She married Lord Malcolm Fleming (1496-1547),the 1st Earl of Wigton, he was slain in the"Battle of Pinkie". From my research Agnes's mother was Margaret Murray, and father James Stewart,Earl of Buchan. Both Johanna, and her mother, Agnes were natural children that were legitamized. Johanna's son Lord John Fleming(-1573)md Elizabeth Master, the daughter of Robert Master of Ross. The line becomes rather murky after him, with a natural son, Thomas (c. 1540-)and his son William Fleming(c.1564-)and then, the mysterious Sir. Thomas Fleming (1597-)who came to Virginia 1616 and may have married a Tarleton. Since you have traced your line back to the Scotish Kings I thought you might have some insite on this line.
