...m.2ndly c.1763 Augusta Co, Virginia, Lt. Thomas ARMSTRONG bc. 1720.
James STUART settled his family in the Shenandoah Valley, in an area called "the cowpasture", and at Tygart Valley.
This lineage is well documented (Dickerson 1966).
In the Hist. Magazine of VA, vol 21 pt 372 "the will book of the court 1761, for 215,
Ann STEWART, as a widow of James Stewart (or Stuart)
was receiving rental from lands in KILCOSHAN, county Dublin, Ireland. Prerogative Court of Ireland.
Witnesses were Thomas LEECH / LEACH and James Shiel.
Nov 17 1757, Ann Stuart (nee Lafferty) administered the will of her deceased husband, James STUART.
Feb 17 1762 Orphans Court of Augusta Co,
James Stuart, Jr. 18yrs, orphan of James Stuart, was bound out to John Hamilton as his guardian;
his brother, Ralph Stuart 15yrs, chose his older brother Robert Stuart as his guardian;
and John Stuart, 14yrs,chose Henry Murray as his guardian.
On 24 Sep 1763, Lt. Thomas ARMSTRONG and Ann, his wife (late Ann STUART, administratix of James STUART),
were summoned to render accounts (Chalkey 1980, I: 78, 95, 109).
Accountings of the property of James STUART(s) were made in 1757 and 1758, in Augusta Co (Torrence 1985).
---------------------------------
Elizabeth Stuart's brother may have been Major Robert Stuart 1700-1789, a good friend (secretary ?) of George Washington. (G.W.'s sister may have married a Mr.Stuart.)

James STEUART (Stewart) gave his name to the stream first known as Stuart's Mill Creek,
and was killed by Indians in 1757. (He was probably a brother-in-law to Ralph LAVERTY).
James STEUART (Stuart Stewart), Ralph STEUART, and John STEUART were then minor children.
James STEUART and Ralph STEUART went to Tygart's Valley,where the former died in 1777.
Robert STEUART, who was living on the patent in 1789 and keeping a store, was probably the oldest son.
