I am researching the above ancestor who married Marianna Bartosiakow in Szelkov , Poland 3 Feb 1852. My question on this foruum is whether Strzyz is a variation of Strzyzowski? There are 20 different place names in Poland with the Strzyz prefix including a Strzyzow 125 km west of Krakow and another 100 km south of Warsaw and one near Lvov in what was formerly Poland but now Ukraine. I guess there is not one , but many possible sources of Strzyz family names names when Poles started adopting surnames in the sixteenth century.
