Peter STROUP of Perry Co., PA -- DNA surprise
I have some interesting and surprising DNA test results to report. The test subject was said to be a descendant of the 1733 immigrant to Philadelphia, Johann Pieter STRAUB I, on this line:
Johann Pieter STRAUB I & Maria
_Mathias Andreas STRAUB & Catharine DELONG
__Peter STROUP & Rosanna KOSER
___Jacob STROUP & Rebecca HOLLENBAUGH
____Jonathan Samuel STROUP & Laura SCOTT
_____Bert S. STROUP & Rebecca JOHNSON
______Pvt
_______Pvt -- test subject
The problem is that the test subject's results do not match those of four other descendants of Johann Pieter STRAUB I already tested. The results are, however, a 12/12 match for the descendant of Theobald/Dewald STRAUB/STRAUP of Carbon Co., PA, whose immigrant ancestor is unknown.
I have checked the documentation for the line from the test subject to the Peter STROUP who married Rosanna KOSER, and it seems rock solid. The question then become whether the bad connection is between Peter and Mathias Andreas or between Mathias Andreas and Johann Pieter.Either way, this is going to upset some long-accepted paper pedigrees.
The DNA results are on the project page:

along with links to the family group sheets for both Peter's and Theobald's lines.
I urge anyone believed to be descended from Mathias Andreas to re-examine their work in light of this development.I also implore any male STRAUB/STROUP descended from Mathias Andreas to have their line DNA tested. We need to know where the bad connection in this important line lies.
