I'm very interested in your STROOP family from Marshall Co., VA [now WV]. I'm wondering how you know they're from Marshall County. I'm not challenging that they are, I'm just wondering, so possibly I can find out more from the same source.

There were three STROOPs in the 1810/20/30 censuses of Ohio Co., VA -- Marshall Co. was formed from Ohio Co. in 1834, then WV was formed in 1863 and included both Marshall and Ohio Cos. These three STROOPs were John, Henry, and Adam. By 1840, all had left (W)VA.

Adam STROOP shows up in the 1840 thru 1880 censuses of Allegheny Co., PA. He maintained the STROOP spelling of his surname. Adam was the youngest of the three in the 1830 census and later censuses reveal he was born in 1807/8 in WV. I had assumed that either Henry or John was his father. Until finding your message, I hadn't a clue where John went, and I'd assumed he had died, but possibly not.
