I have found a listing of Elizabeth Strohmeyer as the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Strohmeyer. The family appears to have migrated from Haut Rhin Alsace with some of the original Catro Colony settlers (Castroville). They appear to have arrived January 27, 1845 in New Orleans Louisiana on the "Probus" which departed Antwerp on Oct 19, 1844. Children appear to have been: Joseph b 1831 Anne Marie b 1834 Aloise b 1835 Catherine b. 1837 Madeleine b 1839 Elizabeth b. 1840 (in Haut Rhin Alsace rather than Germany) Josephine b. 1842 Mary born 1845 (in Texas) It appears by the 1850 Medina County census Joseph (the father) had died and Catherine remarried Peter Scharatine. Several of the Strohmeyer children are listed including Elizabeth. Elizabeth's first marriage appears to be recorded as Mariana E. Strohmeyer and Joseph Geridene on Dec 15, 1861 in Bexar County. This married name is recorded as both Gernedne and Gernadines in the 1870 census and shows Elizabeth to have 4 children (including my gggfather Joseph). Elizabeth appears to be listed under Strohmeyer as a widow in the San Antonio Directory in 1877/78 and as the widow of Joseph Schwartz in the 1890 San Antonio City Directory. Schwartz and Black appear to have been interchanged shortly after this point. I would really like information about the Schwartz/Black family. My grandfather John Gandine (son of Herman Gandine) was adopted by his aunt Maggie (Schwartz/Gandine) Riegel. Please let me know if you find more information on the Schwartz/ Black family.
