Connie,
I have "101 Thomas Strode was borh 1814, probably near Coatsville, Pa., went with his father to Freeport Ohio, and about 1835 to Farmer's Township, P.O. Bernadotte, Ill. He married Oct. 4, 1842, CatherineSmith, born (1825), daughter of Jesse Smith and Susan Tipton, by whome he had six children. After her death July 3, 1857, he married May 5, 1859, Sarah Sexton, born in Lewis Co., Ky., Jan. 7, 1817. He died (Apr. 5), 1899. From the account in "History of Fulton Co., Ill.," p. 672, and from the 1850, 1860, and 1870 census records, his children appear to have been as listed below. The History says that he had six children by his first wife of whom five were living in 1879. Samuel aged 25, Louisa 24, Anna 3, and Willard 2/12 were living with Thomas at the 1870 census, but I did not find his name in either the 1850 or 1860 census. It is strange that Amelia 9, then living with them, is not mentioned in the History. Possibly she died soon afterwards."
This is from the book "The Strode Families in England and America" by James Strode Elston.
Was Dr. William S. Strode a Physician? If he is, was he also in Co. A, 50th Ill. Vol. Inf?
Does that help?
Russ
