James Stringfellow in Surry Co. Va.
Hello,
I found this today in "Surry County, Virginia Court Records (Part I: Order Book 1671-1691) 1672-1682" transcribed by Waynette Haun, 1989, p. 113
9 br. 4th. 1679....
"Jane STRINGFELLOW the Relict of James STRINGFELLOW deced appeareing in Cort & relinquishing her Rt. of her husbands Estate & praying it may be Entered on REcord, It is therefore Admitted to Record."
This record makes it clear that Jane Harris Stringfellow's husband was James Stringfellow of Surry Co. Va.After James died, Jane married Evan Humphreys.Jane and Evan raised her son Richard Stringfellow and 2-3 sons of their own.
About 1707, Jane gifted a piece of land that she inherited from her father Richard Harris to her son Richard Stringfellow.Richard S. sold the property for a profit and his wife Susan gave up her dower rights in the sale.Richard seems to have lived in Surry Co. up to at least 1717, about 10 years after his mother and step-father stop appearing in the Surry Co. records.
My family is descended from one of Richard Stringfellow's Humphries half-brothers, but I am interested in knowing what happened to Richard and his family.
Please contact me if you have information you would like to share about this family.
Thank you.
Charlene
