Have you researched - or know of anyone researching - the branch of this line that went into Wilkes/Greene Co., GA? From Stafford Co., VA, Enoch went into Granville Co., NC, then was in Wilkes Co., GA by about 1785 and Greene by 1796 according to the research of Hugh Stringfellow. "George" Stringfellow was executor of Enoch's estate in Greene c. 1814; George is believed to be Enoch's son. Based on typical naming schemes, it would seem that your thinking is accurate - perhaps Enoch named a child after a brother, George.
I'm researching a James R. Stringfellow who married into my Hicks line that was in Greene c. 1820 - trying to see if he connects up to the Enoch branch.
