Hi Laura,

I saw your post several weeks ago, but I was in Switzerland and unable to answer you properly at that time. After getting home and getting settled back in I have had a chance to review my notes on the Strickler family.

I am suprised that you have not been able to locate further information on this Strickler line. This is a pretty well known line, although not thru the McCorkle line.

Jacob Strickler, Jr. (26 Dec 1762-10 Jan 1812) and his wife Sarah Wilson (16 May 1763-16 Mar 1827) were Sarah's parents. I have her birth as 6 Sep 1791. She is the only one of the 11 children of Jacob & Sarah that I do not have a death date for. Sarah & Hugh have listed 6 children: Henry, William, James, Sarah, Elizabeth and Mary. I have limited information on their descendants.

Jacob Strickler, Jr. was a son of Jacob Strickler, Sr. b. 23 May 1730 d. 26 Apr 1803 md Magdalena Scherch (Shirk and other spellings) d/o Joseph Scherch.

Jacob Strickler, Sr. was a son of Heinrich Strickler, 1st. b. c 1696 d. 5 May 1761) his wife was Susanna c 1700-3 Feb 1758) widely accepted to be Susanna Stauffer.

Heinrich Strickler was an immigrant. From that point backwards the information on the Strickler family is a bit murky. His father is strongly believed to be Hans Strickler, a Mennonite Minister in Germany. There is some debate over who Henry's mother was. Henry's date of birth determines who his mother was. We are not 100% certain when Henry was born. Several unconfirmed sources give a birth in 1696. Records of the early Mennonite Stricklers have not been easy to find. I feel that we have properly identified Hans Strickler's parents as Hans Jakob Strickler & Anna Catharina Asper, son of Hans Strickler & Margaretha Hitz, son of Konrad Strickler and Anna Landis. Konrad Strickler of the Horgenberg (community of Hirzel in Switzerland) is often called Konrad Strickler the Persecuted. He was imprisoned several times for his religious beliefs and died in prison in Zürich. No proof or evidence links Konrad Strickler to earlier Swiss Strickler lines. There is a gap in records from about 1573-1598 due to book burnings as a result of territorial wars between Cantons Schwyz and Zürich. That gap prevents us from connecting the pre 1570 families with the post 1570 families.

Can you provide me with details of the early McCorkle Strickler Connection?

Frank
