Quite possibly. James Potter was born around 1790 and moved to Hancock then Crawford County GA, and onward to AL around 1836. James had a son John who was a Methodist minister.
Another James Potter was born to John Potter around 1818.
In the Crawford County court records for Feb 1837, I see:
The above stated cases ... against BRYAN F. LANE, ERASTUS STICKLAND & JAMES POTTER, partners under the firm of B. F. LANE & CO. ... that neither JAMES POTTER or ERASTUS STRICKLAND were to be found in the County ... plaintiffs may institute proceedings against the said STRICKLAND & POTTER.
I'd liek to know which James Potter this was, and what the relationship was with the firm of B.F. Lane & Co. My James I believe was a lawyer. There was also a carpenter by that name; may be the same person or not.
