The crest of the Strickland family of Boynton is a turkey cock. the arms are described as: gu.,a chevron or between three crosses patee arg., on a canton ermine a bucks head erased and attired sa.
These arms were granted in 1550 to Roger Strickland of Marske, Yorkshire. His son, William [The Navigator], was a cadet on Sebastian Cabot's voyage to the New World. He ammased a great fortune and bought the Boynton estate.Hence the North American turkey as a crest.
Roger Strickland was a cadet branch of the Strickland family of Sizergh, Westmorland.the arms of the Stricklands of Sizergh are; Sable three scallops argent.
