The Old WIndham-Moore Cemetery will have a special service dedicating two new markers naming and honoring the "residents" of the cemetery on Sunday May 22, 2005 at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow at Mayfield Fire Dept. hwy 171 marker 19 and a tour of the area.
Until now there were only fieldstone markers in the cemetery which had become "lost" over the years.Although we had always heard about it, we came to realize no one knew exactly where it was located. After some research it was found on hwy 171 mile marker 18 1/2 near Moore's Bridge, Tuscaloosa Co., AL.There are 26 fieldstones with some other indications of graves.I have identified 16 so far from family information and local knowledge.
William Moore owned the land where the cemetery was located when he died in 1850,He along with wife Rahab are buried there. So is Duncan Moore, MaryAnn McCool Moore, Catherine Moore, Sally Moore. My Edward Moore was buried there in 1823.His wife Sara Curll Moore, Mourning Horn Curll, Henry Pickard, James Edward Windham, Martha Maria Pickard Windham, Eugene Windham, Daughter Windham, Edward Windham and his wives 1.Luvinia Camp Windham, 2.Mary Stone Windham and a Seary child. This is one of the oldest cemeteries in Tuscaloosa CO.
Come join us for the dedication of this historic cemetery and these courageous pioneers.Tell other descendents!!
