You wrote, " ...there is a John Strickland mentioned as his father born about 1685."
I would like to know the specific source of this "mention", if you could provide it.
I noticed in a Doug Murphy's WorldConnect listings that a John Strickland, b abt 1681, son of John Strickland and Esther/Hester Smith, and his son John, b 8 Apr 1709, both
are listed as dying on Christmas Day, 1711. I wonder if this correct (vs a 'typo') and if this information came from the Jacobus manuscripts that are mentioned? There must be other records of this, but I have not found them.
It occured to me that if there was any possible confusion over who died in 1711, there may be wiggle room for the father to have been born 18 Mar 1684/1685 and/or to have not died in 1711.
IF the father b 168x lived, there would be a possibility he is the father of a second son John, b abt 1715, the man who married Tabitha Hastings, and this second son the father of Rev John Strickland, Harvard Class of 1762, an ordained minister who served in Oakham, Mass., Warren, Maine, Hudson, N.H., Turner, Maine and Andover, Maine, and had several descendants from Maine.
Alas, I have not heard back when I posed this highly speculative question to Mr Murphy, and unfortunately, these mauscripts that he referenced are not readily availableto one living on the West Coast.
Yes, there were a lot of various John Stricklands around the Hartford area of CT, and surely some that I have not yet identified, however, of those that I have identified, the above is as close as I come to 'making ends meet'.
For what it is worth,
