Hi Jody, my ancestor John Gilbert (1st)b bef 1734 appeared in 1754 in Duplin Co., NC in the part that became Sampson Co.My ancestor Martin Gilbert was the son of John Gilbert Jr/SR (2nd) who also had John Gilbert, Jr (3rd).John 3rd had 3 daughters that m Stricklands.Sara Gilbert was one and appears to be one who m Elbert Strickland, Jr.My Martin Gilbert moved to GA ca 1830, and I haven't been able to find him in the 1830 census, but he wound up in Upson Co., Thomaston, GA (formerly Pike Co.)
Somewhere I have Sarah's birthdate, if you do not.According to the records, John had two other daughters that m Stricklands:Mary and Seale. The sister Easther m John Baggett. They also had brothers William & Wiley O. Gilbert.
I am trying to connect John Gilbert 1st to the correct Gilbert group, and wonder if any of your family would have any leads.I think he came from SC, and before that Surry Co VA or CT, depending on which famiy he belongs to.
Do you happen to know names of Mary & Seale's husbands?
