Book, Early Settlers of Maryland, 975.2W2s p. 445, Matthew Strickland, WC2 170, 1680, servant. (the notes in beginning of book state, passengers were transported over, and put in service, at end of service was entitled to 50 acres in Maryland.)
Book, Caveliers and Pioneers,975.5 R2n Vol.2 p. 187, Matthew Strickland listed on Ring (King) sale on Beaver Dam 26 Sep 1678 with 18 others (including Richard Strickland)....William Collins bordered land. Patent Book 7, p. 269, the land granted to Matthew Strickland was found abandoned by surveyor Capt. Henry Applegate, it was reassigned to Edward Chilton, (25 Oct 1683-total (Patent posted on searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/data/va+index+320753216366+F)
Matthew Strickland did not arrive in Virginia until:
Book Cavaliers and Pioneers, 975.5 R2n Vol.2 p. 238, Thomas Mandue 320 acres in Isle of Wight, Virginia to Matthew Strickland 20 Apr. 1682. (He expanded this to 800 acres)
Seventeenth Cen. Isle of Wight by John Bennett Boddie, 975.554 H2b, p. 596, 6 Nov 1682, Matthew Strickland with wife Elizabeth sold 800 acres for 4000 lbs. of tobacco to William Evans. on main swamp of King (Ring) Sale.
Isle of Wight, Virg. Patents 1679-1680, Thomas Parnell, rec. land patent Book 7, p. 21,20 Apr. 1680 1100 acres of land.
Patent Book 6 p. 653, Matthew Strickland 26 Sep 1687, Isle of Wight, Va. rec. 902 acres of land between main swamp of Ring(King) sale and Beavor Dam Swamp, on the one of Wm. Collins house then transported 18 persons over, including Richard Strickland. (this land was either within the patent of Thomas Parnell, or near the same patent. Seventeenth Century Isle of Wight, by John Bennett Boddie, page 639, (Land deed) Matthew Strickland and William Strickland, sons of Mathew Strickland, dec., have made a division of their lands. Mat. gives his brother, Saml. Strickland, 150 acres and his brother, John Strickland, 150 acres, to his brothers, Wm. and Joseph, 150 acres apiece, 4 Aug. 1699, Barnaby McKinny, Thomas Marks (witnesses)
(Matthew Strickland Sr. could have died many years before this transaction...anytime after 1687..., this is not a "will" it is a land deed mentioning sons of Matthew Strickland Sr. dividing up the property amongst themselves.)
p. 651, Matthew Strickland (Jr.) of I.of W. sells to Thomas Boon (his brother-in-law, sister Elizabeth Strickland's husband) 300 acres in the Lower Parish, for 1200 lbs. of tobacco. 8 Dec. 1702.
