William Pleasant Stribling, 74, attorney for 41 years in Lowndes County, died at his home on Military Rd., in Columbus on Dec. 22, 1947 after an illness of several months. A former Senator in the State Legislature, Mr. Stribling was president of the Lowndes County Bar Association at the time of his death. The veteran attorney of this county began the practice of law in Columbus in 1906, moving to Fulton from Tupelo, where he was admitted to the bar in 1896. In 1916 he was elected to the State Senate from Itawamba County and served in that body for four years until 1930. Born in Fulton in Itawamba County, son of Shelton Randolph and Mary Jane Gates Stribling, William P. Stribling received his education in the schools of Fulton and Tupelo and at the Webb school in Bellbuckle, Tenn. He enrolled at Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tenn., and was graduated from there with an LLB in 1896, and was admitted to the bar in Tupelo the same year.
In 1906 he married Frances Blanche Eddins of Carrollton, Ala. Of that union, twin children, Sarah Blanche and William Pleasant Stribling, Jr., were born. The latter died in 1929. On Jan. 1, 1934, Mr. Stribling and Mrs. Mary Wright Allen of Pickens County, Ala., were married, and of this marriage a son, James Vardaman Stribling, at present 12 years old, was born.
Mr. Stribling was a prominent member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, of which he served as an elder for 10 years.
Survivors included his wife, Mrs. Stribling; one son, James Vardaman Stribling, both of Fulton; and a daughter, Mrs. Horace Young of Longview, Texas.
Services were held at the First Baptist Church on Dec. 23, 1947 with interment in the Friendship Cemetery.
