Will of Robert Strettell (found in Book M, at the Registrar of Wills)
Be it Remembered that I Robert Strettell of the City of Philadelphia in the province of Pennsylvania, Merchant, being through ___? goodness and mercies of God in good Bodily health, and of sound and well disposing mind and memory Do make this my last Will & Testament of and concerning all my Worldly Estate in manner following, That is today my Just Debts and funeral Expences being first paid, I Will and Dispose of the Residue of my Estate not already disposed of (Having already advanced all my children some kind or degree and also made a provision of one hundred fifty pounds per annum for my dear and Loving Wife Philotesia during her natural Life which will come unto her solely if she shall happen to survive me,Which Provsion I made by reserving unto myself and said Wife _____ charge of one hundred and fifty pounds per annum during our Natural Lives and the Life of the longer liver of us upon granting to my eldest Son Amos Strettell the Messuage(?) Lot and heriditarments situated in Front Street and Chesnut Street in the said City of Philadelphia with the appurtenances in Fee Simple by Indenture bearing date the tenth day of April last past, Entered on Intended to be entered in the office for recording Deeds for the City and County of Philadelphia. In manner following, That is today, I do give unto My said Dear Wife Philotesia Strettell One Hundred acres of Land at Billingsport in Gloucester County in West New Jersey with appurtenances to hold to her my s. Wife Philotesia her heirs and assigns (?) forever; Also I give unto her my said dear Wife my ten acres of Pasture ground in the said City with the appurtenances, Which I hold of the Proprietor by patent or Lease for years To hold to her my said Wife and her assigns for and during the residue of the said Term to come from and Immediately after my Decease, moreover I give unto my said Wife, my Dutch Servant Boy and maid for the residue of their Time of Servitude at my Decease, and also my Chaise and Chaise Horse, Plate, Household Furniture and Books (Except my Great Bible, my Greek, Latin, and French authors, which I give to unto my s. son Amos, and I give unto my Wife's Sister Frances Chamberlin the sum of one hundred and fifty Pounds Sterling, And I give and bequeath unto my kinsman Thomas Rooke that three hundred acres of Land in Gloucester County in West Jersey sometime called or known by the name of the White Oak Swamp Survey by Jacob Richmand to John Owen and Sands, Recorded in the Surveyor General Office at Burlington in Lib. M folio 295 To hold to him said Thomas Rooke for and during all the term of his Natural Life without Impeachment of Waste and from and immediately after the decease of him the s. Thomas Rooke then to the Heirs of his Body Lawfully Issuing and for want or in default of such Issue then to the Right Heirs of me the s. Robert Strettell and to or for no use Intent or Purpose whatsoever, and I do give and Devise unto my s. son Amos Strettell all my Proprietory Rights to unlocated lands in West New Jersey aforesaid To hold hold to him the said Amos Strettell his Heirs and Assigns forever, and I do give unto my sons Amos and John and Daughters Frances and Ann Ten Pounds apiece current money of Pennsylvania, and I do give unto my son in law Isaac Jones ten pounds currency aforesaid, And I do give unto my Executors hereafter named Twenty pounds currency aforesaid to be distributed unto and amongst such Objects of Charity who do not receive of the overseers of the Poor as my said Executors shall in their discretion think meet, And I do nominate my s. Wife and Sone Amos to be the Executrix and Executor of this my Last Will and Testament, and I do give unto my said son Amos in consideration of his trouble as Executor the sum of One Hundred Pounds Currency aforesaid, And as for and Concerning all the Rest and Residue of my Estate as well Real as Personal whatsoever or wheresoever I do give devise and bequeath the same unto my s. Wife Philotesia, And I do hereby declare this to be my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all others. In Witnesses whereof I the said Robert Strettell have here unto set my Hand and Seal the Twenty first day of June In the year of our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred and fifty.

Sealed Published and declared By the above named Robert Strettell for and as his last Will and Testament. In the presence of us, who have hereunto Subscribed our names in his presence and at his Request.

Memorand.The Twenty second Day of August 1750. Whereas in my Will foregoing I have given unto my wife's Sister, Frances Chamberlain a Legacy of one hundred and fifty Pounds Sterling. Now having further considered of the matter I do hereby Revoke the same Legacy to her. And in Lieu these of I do give unto her the s. Frances Chamberlain one annuity of Twenty Pounds Sterling per annum payable unto her the said Frances Chamberlain or her assigns in every year of her Natural Life. The first payment thereof to be made on the tenth day of January next ensuing the day of my Decease, and I do hereby Ratified and confirmed all other things in my Last Will aforesaid mentioned. Except only what is hereby altered and do Declare this to be for and as a codicil to be and be taken for and as a part of my Last Will and Testament, as witnessed my hand and seal.
