My relative was Agnes Stretch, b 1814, daughter of Joseph and Alice Stretch (nee Park), in Borwick near Lancaster. No info on Joseph. Agnes had two brothers, Joseph and William. She married George Knott, a tailor, and settled in Lancaster. Agnes died in 1864 in Lancaster. Agnes' brother Joseph married someone called Ellen and they had 7 children - Alice, Thomas, Joseph, Agnes, William, James and Catherine. This family also settled in Lancashire (Middleton). Any information or possible links with this family gratefully received, plus suggestions on where the name came from. One genealogist thought the roots might be German.
