streeter boy, b. December 2, 1855
I am looking for Streeter lineage for a boy who was 20 months old when he was adopted by Captain Henry Kelley and Betsey Jones of Milan, Ohio in 1857. His name became Frank Adelbert Kelley, and was legally the heir to the Captain in 1901. He was born December 2, 1855. He is our great grandfather who died in 1944 in Milan, Ohio. His son was Henry (died 1945), who was the father to Frank A. Kelley, Jr. who died in 1988. We constitute the large Kelley family looking for the biological father to this family that is in fact a Streeter family, according to the history of Erie County and other sources.
Family lore always told us that the father was killed one one of the Captain's ships in the 1850s when he fell off a mast. We heard the young mother, not being able to care for him, brought the boy to the Captain's doorstep. We don't think that is now true. The Kelleys were bereft after losing four children and we believe were very focused in their adoption process. We do know that both parents were dead when he as adopted, according to the history of Erie County. His mother may have been an Evans, as it is noted in Frank's burial record in Milan. We are extremely motivated to learn more about our heritage and would appreciate any help finding our Streeter lineage
Lisa Kelley
Thank you very much.
