Thanks for your reply.I am especially interesed in the Cooper connection you mentioned.
By way of explanation, my ancestor James Carter and wife Salina Dean married in Hardeman Co. TN 1836, went to Tippah Co. MS abt.1837-38, to Travis Co. TX 1851 (Webberville), and to McLennan Co. TX (Waco) abt. 1869.
In 1860 in Travis Co. TX (Webberville), my James Carter was a wagoner.Living next door to him was another wagoner named S.M. Strayhorn, age 28, b.NC.Also in Webberville was N. Strayhorn, age 38, b.NC.I am inquiring into any possible connection between my Carter/Deans and the Strayhorns.
Regarding Cooper, back in Tippah Co. MS, my James Carter and wife Salina Dean had a daughter named Sarah Etter (not Etta) b.1847.She was apparently named for the wife of a Rev. Cooper, a well-known minister in Ripley, MS.His wife was Sarah, maiden name Etter. Then later in Texas, my James and Salina's daughter Sarah (the one named for Sarah Etter Cooper) had a granddaughter who married a James W. Cooper b.1880s. There is also a possible Cooper connection to some Deans I am researching who were possibly related to my Salina Dean. Will send you an email with further details to see if there is any connection to your Coopers. Will use your email address given on GenForum; is it current? You can contact me at: [email protected]
