Deborah: I had a great-uncle Charlie Clesson Strayer who married Edith Leece and one of their daughters was named Goldie. Charlie and Edith lived at Montague, Michigan, which is not far from Walkerville. Charlie and Edith died in a house fire in 1957. The information I have is that Goldie was born about 1919 and that she married somebody with the last name of Howard. She had several sisters. I would be surprised if my Charlie spoke German, though my Strayers do descend from the German Strayers who were in the Pennsylvania Dutch area of PA. Not an exact match with your Charlie but close enough to make me wonder. If you think there may be a connection let me know and I can give you more info.
