I am looking for information on John Strawbridge (my G G G G Grandfather) who was born around 1770, possibly near Williamsport, PA. Sometime around the mid to late 1790s he travelled west and settled in Venango County, PA. It was there that he met and married Elizabeth Lucas, an Irish immigrant who was kidnapped and brought to America by her sister and brother-in-law as a young girl. The story that was passed down through the generations was that after he wrote home to his family to tell them about his intentions to marry, his family wrote back asking of the young lady's dowry. He wrote back to them saying that "her wit and her virtue are her dowry". This was an unacceptable response for his family, and he never heard from them again. We have not been able to figure out who are the parents of John Strawbridge. We just know that he had been born and grew up near to Williamsport, PA. If anyone has any information on this, please let me know. Thanks.

Eric Hatch
