HI Sue and Sandy
I saw your posts from a long while back, and I know for sure that I and our whole section of the tree go back to Henry Strauch. My cousin Paul Welcomer has also been doing a great deal of research into the family and may have run into you both before me. However, if not, then I have been tr5acing his possbile activities with the Revolutionary War as a participant in the 1st battalion, 6th company (eastern District)He is mentioned on May 17, 1777 as part of the Berks County militia as a 2nd Lt and by May 10 1780 he was a Captain
This all comes via http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/revolutionary_war_militia_overview/4125http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/revolutionary_war_militia_overview/4125
Where you then click on BERKS county militia and then scroll down a little and you will find him
From there it gets interesting because, if you haven't run through the PA Archives there, they have land, tax records, and just about anything else historical online. So if this is new for you, then enjoy, and if you already knew about it, then I am all wet, but happy to try and further the knowledge of the family.
You may know, but if not, we also have Oscar Douglas Jenkins in the family as Major in the Civil War and recivieing a battlefield commendation and promotion to Major at Gettysburg. There is a lot of history, and part of it has us all asking if we are in fact the Reed, Read, Reid, family that Benjamin Franklin married into with Nancy Reed, or a version of depending on the source. So that one remains as well as if there was any connection to the Walter reed of the Famous Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital in Maryland or thereabouts.
If you still monitor this please feel free to email me as i would be very interested to learn and share what I have found.
All The Best,
Scott Schmid
