you wrote that Rose Straub was using the name of Ray Straub and that they never married. Is that certain? I found Mrs. Rose Straub on the 1910 census as well as a Mrs. Rose Straub listed in the Akron City Directory. I had also assumed that if they had not been married, her baby would have been named Armstrong and not Staub. When I called the vital stats dept, they said Ray's parents were Rose and Ray Straub. I haven't gotten the actual birth certificate and the lady was reading from "an index card" and I'm not certain what is actually on the birth certificate, but we know that his ss# has him as a Straub.
