Dear Virginia and interested parties: A year ago I sent for & received the CW pension records for William W. Strathern. The reason? ... my mother's family are Strathearns and I was curious when I found WWS in the CW index. I hope this is helpful to your research.
William Wilson Strathern: b. 21 Feb 1832, Scotland; marr. Mary Tracy of Fort Snelling on 2 Mar 1861 by Edud Eggleston. WWS enlisted on 15 Aug 1862 at Rosemont in Co. 'F', 8th Reg. Minn. Volunteers...reported wounded at Murfreesboro, Tenn. He died 28 June 1915, buried Rosemont Cem. His Death Certificate informant: M. L. Strathern, M.D. of Gilbert Minn. Mary died 16 May 1922. Their children: John L. 01 Dec 1865; Walter L. 30 Jul 1867; Paul Fred 06 May 1869; Thomas 06 Apr 1871; Moses L. 05 June 1874 (see above); Rolly & Mary 23 May 1876.
I hope I haven't transposed any numbers, etc.
(My Thomas Newton Strathearn Family arrived in 1849 from Hart Hill, Lanarkshire and settled in Braddock, PA. Great grandfather's brother in law, Alexander Gray McConnell took his family on to Minnesota. McConnell served in Co. 'I' of the 8th Minn Infantry from 25 Oct 1862 to 11 July 1865. Hence my interest in finding a Strathern in the same outfit. His son John served in Co. "C" of Brackett's Battalion.)
