I am wondering if anyone can provide me with some information on a Jessie (Jesse) Strait (Straight) married to a Lillie (Lily, Lilly) Pearson (Pierson, Person)? The 1900 Census from Meigs County, Ohio lists Jessie Strait (33 yrs), wife Lellie M. Strait (24 yrs), Gertie L. Strait (4 yrs), and Alva C. Strait (1yr).
I have been trying to find Jessie or Lily in other Census records from other years, but I haven't had any luck.
Jessie and Lily are my gg-grandparents. My grandmother, Goldie Mae (Spencer) Caplinger, was the daughter of John Franklin Spencer and Gertrude (Gertie) Strait. Gertie was the daughter of Jessie and Lily (Pearson) Strait.
I have a copy of the 1911 marriage license of John and Gertie. With it is a "permission" letter for Gertie to marry John. It is signed by "Lily Miller". Apparently Lily Strait remarried. I'm not sure what happened to Jesse.
Gertie died of pneumonia in 1914, Wood County, WV.
My grandmother Goldie's 1969 obituary reads that she was survived by her grandmother, "Mrs. Lillie Atkinson" of Columbus, OH. So, it looks like Lily was married at least two times after being married to Jessie Strait.
I have found a couple of references in this forum, particularly one that states Jessie was the son of William Straight (m. Rosa Welch), son of William Straight (m. Jane Cain), son of Peter Straight (m. Elizabeth Bayles Ice), son of Jacob Straight who was killed by Indians in 1786. However, these were posted several years ago. I wonder if anyone has anymore or any updated information?
I found another posting in the Strait or Straight family forum, that sounds like the information concerning Rosa Welch (wife of William Straight) had not been substantiated.
Any help that anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated!
