Joyce,
Wm. Strain lived on a 414 acre farm about a mile from Wellsburg, at Cross Creek in what is now Brooke County WVA.In his will he set aside one acre to be a family cemetery. The cemetery is still there. William was born in Ireland in 1747. One family historian states that he first came to the Cross Creek area in 1774, but the actual land patent was not issued until about 1794. He supposedly returned to Ireland where he married Hannah. They had children, all born on the farm as far as I know: Esther b. 1783; Rebecca b. 23 Apr 1798, married Andrew McCamment 19 Aug 1818. They moved to Knox Co. Ohio; John 1788 - June 1804; Hannah 1790 -; Ebeneezer 1793 -, William 12 July 1794 - 18 Sep 1894; Eleazer Glass 3 Mar 1796 - 4 June 1820: Nancy, 1801 -.
In the family history that I have a copy of, written by Paula M. Strain in 1988 and 1992, there is no mention of a Brown in the "other families" section. I am descended from Rebecca and Andrew and have not done any research on the other members of the family.
