Jeanie, how nice to know that you and Jenny are friends. We found each other by way of the internet. My grandfather is her great-grandfather, but there had been no connection between the families for nearly 100 years! Since she lives in Florida and I'm in NC, it took a while for us to finally meet, but she made a trip to meet her great-uncle (my father) last year and then traveled again for us to spend some time together at Christmas. It was wonderful actually meeting this "new" Stradley cousin.
Please let me know what you find about your relationship to the Roe family. Mr. Roe was a benefactor of Furman University in Greenville, SC. His ancestors settled in the area of Greenville County where Furman is located and, I think, along the Reedy River. I pass through this section of Greenville each week and always wonder just where Peter Stradley was living while he was there and if I am driving through lands that he would have walked over or plowed. There is a church in the area (Reedy River Baptist Church) that was founded (1829)after he left Greenville for Asheville, but I understand that it might be the successor to the congregation that met there in the early 1820s.
Let me know if there is any other way that I can help you in your research. Also, feel free to reply to my email address if you would rather.
