I am just now starting to research my Stracener line. I have been told that my great-great grandmother was Margaret Stracener (b.1852) whose father was Henry Stracener (b.1813 in Madison County, Alabama), and whose mother was Lucinda Claunch (b. 1821, Ashville, St. Clair County, Alabama). I have also been told that they were Cherokee. Margaret married Christopher Columbus Churchwell(b.1855, Alabama) on September 18, 1873 in St. Claire County, Alabama. I've been told they had two children, one of which was my great-grandfather, John William Churchwell (b. 1874, Alabama, died 1914, Arkansas) who married Ida Louise Arnold (b. 1879, Alabama, died 1952, Arkansas). Their eldest daughter was my grandmother, Della May Churchwell (b. 1899, d. 1918 in childbirth). She married Burton G. Tilley (b. 1889, d. 1954) in 1917 and had one child, my mother, Flossie Mae Tilley (b. 1918, d. 2000).
I was doing some research on my dad's (R. C. Waldrop, b. 1912, d. 1983)family in Texas. On a website for the Indian Creek cemetery near Comanche, Texas, I read some information on several Straceners, one daughter of which married a Claunch. The linking of the two names caught my attention. I just wondered if anyone has further information on the two families in my line.
