Dear Thomas Gull:
Hello. Thank you.
As you suggest, and we agree, the "connection" between Rev War veteran, Matthew McAfee, and Daniel Stoy, could have been only in "business" or "association", or maybe just a bit more. As info/data/records are a bit thin for this era in Westmoreland and (Somerset)Bedford, it is sometimes only by accident, or through "association" family records, that some answers are found.
The "Donation Land" that Mathew McAfee received, 1787, is in present Wilmington Twp of of present Mercer Co, some 200 acres plus allowances. On 10 August 1787, in Quemahoning, Mathew appoints his "trusty and loving" friend, Daniel Stoy, of same place, to sell said Donation land (then in Westmoreland, soon to be Allegheny, now Mercer). Daniel would not be able to unload same untill 6 April 1803; about same, or same, time Mathew McAfee headed for Ohio, near Cincy.
Just before the above, or about same time, Mathew McAfee, in Westmoreland Co, 6 Sept 1787, is issued a Warrant for 100 acres in Bedford (Somerset/Quemahoning).
Mathew was also on the 1789 Roster for Quemahoning Twp subject to Malitia Duty (and served/payed) taken by Daniel Stoy. But Mathew back in Westmoreland same year.
Unable to travel that area again, those unanswered questions will no doubt remain puzzles.
Thank you.Take care.Regards, Dick
