Here is a reply I gave to a query on Edward Stotler/Stottler posted last year on the Rootsweb Stotler board.
I don't have much on this family. Sometime before 1870 Elisha Stotler came from Morgan County WV to Macoupin County Illinois. In the 1850 census in Morgan County he is listed as having 3 sons: John 7; James 6; and William 3
In 1860; J.M.I. 15; Jas. H. 13 and W. A. 11

Sarah STOTLER Wife M Female W 26 IL Keeping House KY TN
Eddie STOTLER Son S Male W 2 IL VA IL

Elisha and William are in Barr, Macoupin, Illinois
Even though the age of J.I. is off in the 1880 census I believe that he is John Stotler the son of Elisha. Elisha is is the son of John Jr and the grandson of John who is the "founder" of what I call Group 9:
