Schoharie County - STORY Family

I am looking for STORY family connections to Schoharie County, New York. Malancton is the only one I have found on the census prior to 1860.

After looking through the census (Index) I see only one head of household in Schoharie County prior to 1860 and that is Melancton. He appears to have ben born about 1790 and shows up on the census for the first time in 1820.

It appears that Schoharie County was formed in 1795 from Otsego and Albany Counties. Melancton lived in Summit township which is located on the west side so one would tend to think that he may have orginated from the Otsego County prior to the formation of Schoharie County.

The 1790 cesnsus shows to Story families: Benjamin and Oliver. This may give you a hint to the parentage of Melancton.

My interpretation of the early history of Schomarie County is that the settlers came from Dutchess county in 1795. 1790 shows two Story families for Dutchess County: Zachariah and James; which offer two more sources for the family origin.

1800 Census for Otsego County:

Benjn Story city, Otsego, NY 1800
Oliver Story city, Otsego, NY 1800
Saml Story city, Otsego, NY

Any comments appreciated.
