I am seeking information on James Storey, evidently my 5th great grandfather. The information I have thus far is as follows: James Storey, Planter, of Rowan County, NC, made his will on 1 Sept. 1762, and it was probated in October, 1762. Wife: Martha. Son Samuel to have William Diess book. Son William to have Andrew Grays and Askins book on the Rainbow and a Testament. Son James to have land on Third Creek adjoining Samuel Young and a book Allions Alarm the Collection of Sermons and Jacobs Weisling. Dau. Isabella is to have the Bible. Dau. Jean. (One daughter's name appears to have been omitted in the copying of the will.) The home plantation is to be equally divided among the three sons. Exrs: wife Martha, Samuel Young. Wit: Henry Huey, Mary (X) Huey, Mary (X) Lowrance. There is a 26 June 1769, Rowan Co. marriage bond for Isabell Storry and James Bell. James Bell, "late of the County of Cabarrus now in Mecklenburg & State afsd.," wrote his will on 23 May, 1819, and it was probated in 1820. He mentions that property came to him through his first wife, mother of his son Walter (1774-1844). This must have been Isabella Storey. Mentions sons Walter, James and William, and daughter Alizabeth (Mrs. Thomas) Alexander. Mentions granchildren: James (son of Walter) and Isbell (daughter of Walter). Exrs. William Carrigan, Esq. and Richard Cochran, Sr. Wit: Jno. Harris, J. McLane. Walter Bell (1774-1844) married Hannah Ross (1774-1838, daughter of William and Jean Ross) in Cabarrus Co., their marriage bond was dated 27 Feb. 1797. They lived on Coddle Creek, on the border of present Iredell and Cabarrus Counties, and are buried at the Coddle Creek Presbyterian (now A. R. P.) Church. Their children were: Jane D. Bell (1801-1879, m. Barnett DeWeese in 1827); Isabella Bell (m. Archibald York in 1830); Aseneth Bell (1811-1854, m. James M. Irvin in 1839); Levi Bell (1812-1893, m. 1st Mary M. Killough in 1835, 2nd Mary Jane Van Pelt in 1858); Andrew Bell (1815-1884, m. Martha A. Robinson); William R. Bell (no info.); Martha Bell (m. William P. Rogers in 1845). Levi Bell and Mary Jane Van Pelt (1831-1905) had a daughter named Mary Rhetta Bell (1862-1947). She married Ernest Marion Field (1865-1902) in 1888. Their sixth child and fifth son was John Levi Field (1899-1963), my grandfather. I never knew him as he died before I was born. I would be most grateful for any information. Best Regards, John Field Pankow Asheville, NC Notify Administrator about this message?
