My premise is that John the Elder's parents were John & Mary of Cecil co. MD. The Stoops line seem to go back to either Christopher or Henry both of whom immigrated from England in 1635 and 1647 respectively. There is a land patent in Virginia - Virginia Land Patents and Graves, vol 1, p 561 that I have not been able to check out yet which might give some additional direction. At the moment, I lean toward Henry.

My mother, Shirley Stoops, was always told they were Swedes. There was some intermarriage with the Springers and Hendricksons of New Castle Hundred, but that was not until the late 17 and early 1800's.
