I am researching the ancestry of Rhoda Stoneking, born Wetzel County, WV, in about 1893. Married to Martin C. Anderson in 1908. Rhoda's parents were James Stoneking born about 1854 and Jane Hostettler born about 1851. I have seen ample census records to believe this is true. On familysearch.org I have found the following:
I have located a death record for Jane Stoneking in WV deaths database died June 6, 1936. Her parents are listed as Nathaniel Hostettler and Betty Jones. An 1860 census record places Jane, age 9, on the same page with her parents. This is good data.
There is a death record for a James K. Stoneking in WV deaths dated April 9, 1926. I have good reason to think this is the father of Rhoda; middle initial, birth year, etc. Parents of James K. are listed as James Stoneking and Betty Anderson. I cannot locate any census record such as 1860 or 1870 that places James K. Stoneking born 1854 on the same page as the older James Stoneking. A brief entry in rootsweb identifies a James Stoneking as married to Betty Anderson, but no children are revealed. There is a possible 1850 census record with a child Samuel, but I cannot find that it goes anywhere in 1860.
So, I am running out of ideas with online databases of public records. Anyone have any ideas?
