I looked for Stoneciphers in TX cen records and found a N.J. Stinecipher in the 1860 Cherokee Co. census index age 33, Rusk P.O. b TN, Mary C. age 33 b NC, and John C. Gregory 19 b NC. They weren't in the 1870 census, but in MARRIAGE RECORDS OF CHEROKEE CO., TX- 1846-1880 v. 1 there was #75 Warren, Neal S. marr Mrs. Mary C. Stinesipher 1-1-1863. I wonder if this N.J. could be the son of John S.-maybe named Noah John? He evidently died between 1860 and 1863-maybe in the Civil War. In the same marriage book was #25 George, I.M. marr Rodah Stinesypher 8-11-1852 and #66 Sides, J.D.F. marr Susannah Stinecipher 10-10-1855. Do any of these names seem familiar?
In that Stonecipher book, there was a sister of John S., Sarah C. (b 1799) who married a Reese who also went to TX. A cousin said that Thomas Hamby and Thomas Aytes both also went to TX about the same time as John did. By the way Salome's maiden name was Rose wasn't it. I've never seen Joseph's middle name as Marion. Is that info passed down in the family? I have a picture of a young Levi Hamby wearing a sport coat and standing in a field. Do you have this? Have you ever corresponded with cousin Ruth in TN?B
The Stonecipher book didn't list any children of Ezra's son Joseph but did say that he went to IL. Barbara
