Ken;
Let me throw a little more fuel on the fire; there was a
John B. Stone living in North Carolina in Franklin Co.,. He was married to Sarah "Sally" Walker of Franklin and Halifax Co., N.C.,..John B. Stone was born in Halifax Co.,N.C. (some researchers get Halifax,NC mixed up with Halifax Co. Virginia) where he and his parents with his brothers and sisters lived as they grew up on the Roanoke River at a feeder creek to the river called Fishing Creek. John B. Stone and Sarah Walker-Stone would have a son in Franklin Co.,N.C., that was namedJohn B. Stone Jr.Listed in the 1790 Census of Franklin Co., North Carolina there were only three (3) Stone families that were recorded. John Stone and family. William Stone and family and Jonathan Stone and family.
John B. Stone Sr. was born in 1760 and he had a brother named William Stone that was born in Halifax Co., N.C.,. His brother was listed as a Jr. making their father William Stone Sr.,.William Jr. was born in 1763 and at the age of 15 years his family moved from Halifax Co., to Franklin County, N.C.,. At the age of nineteen years John B.Stone Sr. and at the age of 16 years William Stone Jr. joined the North Carolina militia to fight in the Revolutionary War. I beleive that the William Stone that was listed in the Halifax County, census was William Stone Sr.,.William Stone Jr. when he married and had children named his oldest son Lemuel R. (Roberson) Stone. Living in New Kent,Virginia was a William Stone and his wife Elizabeth Roberson. By the way; John and William had a sister that was named Elizabeth. I am thinking that this William and Elizabeth of New Kent, Va, may have been there grandparents because they died and were buried in New Kent, Va.,. So there father William Stone Sr. of whom I have no name for his wife, was born in New Kent, Va. and moved to Halifax Co. N.C.
This is the way I have it....but with all the bad census taking and wrong misplaced information and a family that like to use the same given name over and over again it could be that they were born in Halifax County, Va.,. ...but I doubt it.... Hope this has not confused anyone too much more but I would like to know if we have the same line are or there two different lines with the same names...There were other brothers and sisters to John B. Sr. and William Jr.....two I know of were Elias Stone and Anna Stone who married Thomas Murray and in time moved to Bond Co., Illinois. John B. Stone Jr. in time moved and I think he too went to Bond Co.,Illinois by way of Kentucky. I am thinking that Jonathan who was listed in the 1790 Franklin Co., census was another brother.
Well I have added my split up trunk of a tree to the fire. Let's see how high the flames will leap and what kind of smoke it makes.
