As of this time I have not found the name Sabra Stone in my research or in cross references to my lineages. Not to say that I will not encounter the name later for I have not branched out into all the limbs as yet. The time date for your grandmother's birth and my direct lineage does not include that name. It is possible that she could be of the children of fourth great grandfathers' brother's but as to the lines I have searched out so far of those the name still does not appearin my lineage. Most families as you know used "bibical names " for their children and these names were passed down from generation to generation. Given names among several lines of the same family were given in honor of whom the child was named after and to carry on the tradition of family unity. The name Sabra is in itself among "english speaking; Irish and Scot-Irish and British" families highly unusual. The name Sabrina is used often but the name Sabra,is, in it's origin, Arabic which means;
"patient -- enduring. Other national groups that used the name often were Hebrew, Swahili, African and Hebrew.
The meaning of the name in Hebrew is the name of a cactus fruit grown there. The name is used by both sexes. You said that she was born in 1792 but the name will not appear on the 1800 Chatham census. There is the possibility that Sabra was a middle name among the Stone families that were listed. The Stone families had ancestors that in earlier times, acting on behalf of the "Royal Bristish Crown" acted as Governors and Marshall's over various territories in Africa and India and other holdings of England. It is very likely that the name Sabra came thru one of these servants lineage thru marriage. I would not doubt that Nicholas S. Stone may have been a son of William Stone Sr. or one of his other sons but my research as to be sure has not extended to the point that I can say it is true. I have Nicholas S. Stone and Jane (Glass) Stone as living in Bear Creek North Carolina with several children. They had a son named John D. Stone that was married and living with them. His wife's name was Margaret Elizabeth. They had no children at the time . Nicholas was at this time the age of 63 yrs. and owned a grocery store on the old 421 highway that went thru Goldston and on into Bear Creek on into Siler City,N.C.,. The old store stood there for many years as old 421 was a primary road in North Carolina. In 1965 the store was still in operation but had changed hands several times over, When it finally closed the building remained there for several more years that I know of. It still may be there as far as I know. It was weathered and beaten when it was last used as a roadside store to travelers. Jane (Glass) Stone was about 65 years old and their son John D. was 21 years old and was farming his father's land. His wife, Martha Elizabeth was only 17 years old. In the censuses that I have of Chatham county on John Glass and Sabra I have Josiah listed as being 22 years old and farming his fathers land. He was still at living at home. They had a total of 300 acers which most of it was woodland and pasture. The others at home were; Martha 20yrs.-- Valara 18 yrs. -- Mahala 17 yrs.-- and Margaret 14 yrs. of age. It does not list W.A. and Benjamin B. Glass and there were no other Glass families listed in Chatham, Moore, or Randolph Counties. I have yet to check that Harnett County. Lee County did not exist at that time but was part of Chatham and Moore counties. I know that this has not served as much help to you in your research but it is what I know at this time. In my findings if I make a connection or even find out more about Sabra Stone I will definitely post it for you. Keep in touch should you find out and let me know so that I can add to my research notes....
