Zealy Stone's wife was Nancy Holmes, daughter of Jacob and Mary Holmes who lived in Union Co. SC near the Spartanburg border near Pacolet.The following notes prove the connection:
Jacob's wife Mary filed for guardianship of their children under 14 in 1804:
The following information from the Union Co. Courthouse from theWestern Circuit Court Equity Record:
"Zabud Holmes, son of Jacob Holmes, deceased, a minor above theage of 14, petitioned that his mother, Mary Holmes, be appointedhis guardian.Petition granted upon Mary giving bond andsecurity to the commissioner.
Mary Holmes, widow of Jacob Holmes, prayed that she be appointedguardian of the persons and property of her five minor children,viz, Mary, William, Nancy, Jacob and Amos.Petition granted,Mary giving security to the commissioner.
Court of Equity to be holden at Union Court House for the UnitedDistricts of Spartanburg, Union, York and Chester on 29 February1804."South Carolina Magazine of Ancestral Research, V. 11 No.4, Fall 1979, p. 197.
The following from Union County Deed Abstracts provides more information on the Holmes siblings.
R. 193Zabud Holmes, Sam'l Quin who intermarried with Polly Holmes, Zealy Stone who intermarried with Nancy Holmes, Jacob Holmes, Amos Holmes of Union District for #112.50 to Sam'l Davis of same, tract of land on Shoal Creek, a watercourse on Fairforrest, 45 acres, part of a tract originally granted to Jedathon Porter, 28 Mar 1822, Zabut Holmes (LS), Sam'l Quinn (LS), Zealy Stone (LS), Jacob Holmes (LS), Jacob Holmes (LS), Amos Holmes (LS), wit: A. T. Davis 28 Mar 1822 before J. Rogers. Q.U. Recorded 18 March 1822.
I am descended from Jacob Holmes, Jr. who moved to Carroll Co. TN.
