Hello! My ancestry Stone line dates back to one George Stone b: 1595 in England. He and a couple of brothers (according to one book about this Stone line)landed in Jamestown Colony, VA in 1620 making this the earliest that this Stone line can be traced in America. My paternal GGG grandfather, John Stone b: 1782 in Spartanburg Co. SC was born to a John Stone born ca 1750 d: ca 1815.His widow, Mary Stone followed the pioneering path of John born in 1782 and was 93 years of age when she died and was buried at Shottsville Methodist Church Cem. in far northwest Marion County, Alabama. This is also where the 1782 born John is buried. The 1857 born John Henry (my great grandfather) although born in the Shottsville community, was buried at Bexar Methodist Church Cemetery. The John Henry born to Dilmus Johnson Stone was raised in the current Tremont, Itawamba Co. MS area. These early day families were quite large (13 to 15 children.)Descendants of this 1782 born John Stone and Annie Elizabeth Lyle (Liles) can be traced through their pioneering moves from Spartanburg Co. thru nw Georgia and into St. Clair Co, Bibb, Perry and lastly Marion Couunty, AL.Some descendants made another move that took them into Itawamba and Monroe Cos. in MS.Descendants of brother Aaron Stone have gone as far west as into Utah and CA.
Serious researchers will learn that the Southern Stone line became divided during the Civil War - the Union sympathizers moved from AL and MS into TN to take their stand - blood was shed for both sides, especially at Shiloh Battleground.
I have not nor do I recall, seeing the Lee surname entwined with the southern Stone families that I follow. That isn't to say they did not "mix".
