Don't want to burst your bubble, especially this long after you originally posted, but I just hate to see bad information go unchallenged, regardless of age.Petit Jean Mountain was Petit Jean long before it was "Impassable" Mountain."Impassable" came from a survey line on the north brow (circa 1825).The General Land Office surveyor couldn't follow his track on Petit Jean Mountain--so named even then--because of the bluff.He wrote "impassable mountain" as the reason he couldn't complete the line.The name Petit Jean was in use before 1813, and probably long before.John Walker had nothing to do with the name.Sorry...
