I'm not related and I assume you mean the Stone Family of Rock Island County, IL.

I suggest getting William obituary. Check with a local library or historical society to see if they can help. You might also try to get William's county death record. It may not have data on his father, but might list exactly where he was born. Try to find as much as you can on his children such as their death certificates and marriage records. Sometimes the exact place of birth if the father is listed.

Start with the familysearch.org website.
