I purchased the subject undated studio portrait taken by Wood's Art and Photograph Gallery, Marysville, CA. It is identified on the back:

"William Fred Stone - California
Living 1925 G. L. S.' uncle

William Frederick Stone"

I found him listed in the 1860-1920 Census data. I also found his parents listed on www.alden.org (his mother was an Alden descendant).

William Frederick Stone, Jr. was born Dec 1845 in ME, the son of William Frederick Stone, born 5 Oct 1822 in Bellows Falls, Windham Co., VT, and Olive Russell Harris, born 25 May 1825 in North Yarmouth, Cumberland Co., ME (they married 28 Jul 1844 in Auburn, Androscoggin Co., ME). In 1860, his father was the proprietor of a riding school. Siblings were Emily M, born about 1847, and George B., born about 1857.

At the time of the enumeration conducted on 22 Jul 1870, the man in the photo resided in Sacramento (Ward 1), Sacramento Co., CA, and worked as a watch maker.

At the time of the enumeration conducted on 10 Jun 1880, he resided on Second Steeet in Marysville, Yuba Co., CA, married to Rodda (maiden name unknown), born about 1847 in NJ. His occupation is shown as watch repairing.

At the time of the enumeration conducted on 15 Jun 1900, he resided in Gibson Township, Sierra Co., CA, and his occupation is shown as watch maker.

At the time of the enumeration conducted on 13 May 1910, he resided in Plumas Township, Plumas Co., CA, and his occupation is shown as jewelry store proprietor. He is listed as widowed, having been married 41 years with two children (names unknown).

At the time of the enumeration conducted on 8 Jan 1920, he resided in Plumas Township (Quincy Town entered then crossed out), Plumas Co., CA, lodging in a boarding house located on Main Street (house not numbered). His occupation is shown as jublie? watch maker.
