Hi Bobby & Tim - may I introduce another Stone family to see if you are related to my John Stone b: ca 1750 in VA d: 1815/16 in Spartanburg Co. SC and married to Mary b: ca 1757 d: 1851 in Shottsville, Marion Co., AL.Their son John Stone b: 1782 - 1869 in VA or Spartanburg Co., SC and married to Annie Lyle (Liles)b: 1786 - 1846.They married in 1804 in Spartanburg Co., SC and from my records most likely at least the first 11 children were born in Spartanburg Co. and Annie Caroline b: 1824 and Nancy Emaline b: 1825 might be born in either GA or St. Clair Co., AL.This family were true pioneers in spirit, moving further south and westward to clear new territory whenever their local farming community began to get over populated.
Their pioneering led them next into Bibb/Perry County (I arrive at this in the fact that they spent too few years in this central Alabama area and I believe they bought land that adjoined in each of the Bibb & Perry Counties.Their final move led them northwest to Marion County, AL where they first called their chosen land Stonetown - when one of their sons-in-law, a gentleman with surname of Shotts petitioned for a postoffice, the territory was renamed Shottsville and remains as such on today's maps with very little remaining besides the Shottsville Methodist Church/Cemetery.The schoolhouse was stil standing the last time we visited the cemetery nearby, but I don't know when it ceased to serve the community.
The first born son, Dilmus Johnson Stone, ventured one more move westward, settled in what he named Stone Crossroads in the new state of Mississippi in Itawamba County. This today is Tremont - suggested because of the mountainous like land (that implies it was really hilly! and it is).
One daughter, Mahalia, married William Amos Risinger and took their family into east Texas, Shelby County.
The adventurous parents were my paternal GGG grandparents, their 4th child, Phares (Pharis) was my GG grandfather, John Henry Stone my G grandfather and Morman B. Stone was my grandfather and Leon Stone my father.I joined this family in 1931.From all my researching of this family line, it has always been Methodist in faith.
