I am looking to unravel a puzzle about our Stoltenberg ancestry. My G G grandfather was Thomas Stoltenberg, born abt 1852. He was from Iowa according to his daughter. He may or may not have immigrated when he was around 2 or 3 years old from Holstein. He married Anna Erbst (born abt 1862) on 15 Oct 1881 in Rock Island County, IL. I'm guessing he may have been the Thomas Stoltenberg that lived with the Wendt's (Frederick and Margarette) in Iowa on the 1860 and 1880 census. In between, on the 1870 census he is not listed with the Wendt's but there is a Thomas of the same age listed on Hans and Christine Stoltenberg's census. Thomas may have had another wife after Anna. Thomas and Anna had a least two children, Agnes Franchetta born 1882 and Thomas R born 1887. You may respond to this post or email me at
