Thomas Stokes, Mary Norman, and their children: some questions

Since DNA results have shown that Thomas Stokes is not related to the “Southside” Virginia Stokes as many of us thought, I am hoping that through the accumulation of small facts, or by tracing the migration of an associated family, a clue to the past may present itself. To that end, I am soliciting the answers to these questions from the community of those also researching Thomas' history.

I find no references anywhere to the Stokes religious affiliations. Are there any?

What is known about the family of Mary Norman? Is she the daughter of Charles Norman Sr and sister to Charles Jr, Job and Thomas? Does anyone know their location before Guilford/Rockingham? From the 1783 will of John Caffey, it is known he had a daughter named Rebecca Norman. Is she the mother of Mary Norman and wife of Charles Norman senior?

From whom did Thomas buy or inherit the land he owned in 1787? Are there deed records between Edward and Thomas? Does anyone have a complete list of Thomas Stokes' land transactions they are willing to post?

Who is the Leven Stokes mentioned three times in the court minutes of 1801-11? In the court minutes of 1808 a Leven Stokes is appointed a patroller in Capt George Nicks District. He is also cited in two lawsuits: “John Thompson vs Leven Stokes” and “John H, Starratt vs. James Everett and Leven Stokes.” [Note that Leven Stokes, son of Edward G, was born in 1797 and therefore too young to be this Leven Stokes.]

Is there an argument against Hance Stokes being a son of Thomas beyond the fact that the case for it is circumstantial?

I have read that Charles Stokes was made guardian of Daniel Stokes children after his death. Can anyone cite the probate document where this is stated?

What is known about the Everett family whose two daughters married Thomas Norman Stokes. I have read that Charles married Nancy Everett. Is there evidence for it?

The court record states that Thomas Stokes was made guardian of the children of Mary Bishop Ross and James Ross after James’ death in 1803. Does anyone know of a relationship between the Stokes and Ross families or Stokes and Bishop families (other than the fact that Daniel Stokes later married a sister of the deceased James Ross)?

A relationship between Thomas Stokes and Edward G can be seen through the persons of Charles Norman (Jr or Sr) in the court minutes, to wit: In August 1796 the administration of the estate of Jonathan Chilcutt was granted to his widow Rebeckah with bond of L 150 provided by Charles Norman and Robert Bishop. In 1797 Charles Norman proved a deed from Ed Stokes and wife, Leven Rumley and wife, Ann Chilcutt? and Mary Chilcutt? to Rebeckah Chilcutt. In the 1805 case “Robert Bishop vs. Charles Norman,” surety was provided by Edward Stokes. Are there other documents which show a relationship between Thomas and Edward?
In the 1880 census Thomas Stokes age 74, son of Edward, states his fathers birthplace was England. Assuming Thomas is correct (and assuming Edward is Thomas’ son) then Edward G was born in England, and the Stokes came to America in the 17 years between 1770 (birth of Edward ) and 1787 (land in Guilford). A cursory search yielded nothing to advance this notion. Has anyone pursued the notion of Edward Stokes born England? In the 1880 census, Edward S Stokes, age 70, states his father Edward G was born in Maryland. Assuming Edward S is correct, (and assuming Thomas is Edwards father) Thomas Stokes was living in Maryland in 1770 when Edward was born. However, a search of the 1776 Maryland (9 county) census and the 1783 (15 county) MD tax records yielded few Stokes, no Thomas. Has anyone found other documents to support Edward Stokes birth in Maryland? Four children of Daniel Stokes, in the 1880 census, state their father was born in NC. Is there any evidence the Stokes were in NC by 1780?
