Hi Cathy, have to laugh at your down sizing, good luck. I've been trying to down size ever since moving back from Ca. 12 yrs. ago. It doesn't seem to work.
No, you aren't nosey. I went with Leon when he was in the Navy and promised to wait for him. We were young, 19 & 20 and a year was a long time at that age. We wrote for a long time but eventually I got tired of sitting at home . I had a big circle of friends and relatives and we liked to go out dancing. I started dating one of the guys in the crowd and eventually Leon and I just stopped writing. When he came home he didn't get in touch with me . I just put the memories of him away and went on with my life. Also a couple of my cousins had just gotten out of the navy and their tales of shore leave were pretty wild. Figured Leon probably wasn't twiddling his thumbs on leave. Last summer I came across a couple of pictures he had sent me and the messages on the back of them brought all those old memories to the surface so I started looking for him. It took awhile to find out that he had passed away as I had forgotten his first name was Hadley as no one ever called him that. I guess I never really got over him and have regretted not waiting. Do you have a copy of his obituary , if not I can send you one. Do you know anything about his sister (?)
Alvena Lorene , we called her Cookie. Her last name was Kent and have not figured out where she belonged in the family. Did not find a marriage for her Mother Dorothy to anyone by that name. I also did not find either Leon or her graduating from Ottumwa High School. So many questions, so few answers. Oh, and yes I live in Ottumwa. I may be a little slow also as we are remodeling a bathroom. I promise I will get all the info I have to you. Were you in the path of the hurricanes ? Good luck on your yard sale.
Regards,
Jean
